Upcoming Speaker:

Eileen Canney Linneh - June 8th, 2026 at 8:15 p.m. CST

Eileen Canney-Linnehan is the most successful pitcher in Northwestern University Softball's storied history, leading the team to a runner-up finish in Oklahoma City at the D1 College World Series in 2006 and then a third place finish in 2007. Canney was a two-time All-American and continued playing in the NPF (and internationally as well).  Canney coached at UIC as an assistant before embarking into a new era of helping athletes. Since earning her degree in human development and psychological services from Northwestern in 2007, Eileen has taken a professional interest in best practices to control, maintain, and (in many cases) cure the yips (which plagued this stand-out player from age 13 through 26). Canney-Linnehan's education, first-hand experiences, and research have resulted in mentorships with dozens of affected athletes, conversations with countless coaches, and speaking engagements at national conferences.  Eileen effectively communicates mental tactics and exercises to those who struggle with performance anxiety, mental blocks, and the yips. In most cases, the athletes have gained the ability to manage and overcome their issues.  She is currently on a mission to help athletes reach their highest potential, void of an experience where mental blocks hinder their performance.   We can't wait to welcome her to our Cohort Speaker Series on June 8th at 8:15pm CST.

Past Speakers:

Laura Matthews & Maya Johnson - March 4th

Laura Matthews is the Head Softball Coach at Belmont University and a Nashville native who returned home to lead the Bruins in 2020. She brings a strong track record of building competitive, high-performing programs at every stop in her career. Before Belmont, she was the head coach at Wright State, where her teams led the conference in major offensive categories and produced multiple All-Conference and Academic standouts. Prior to that, she spent five successful seasons at Wittenberg University, compiling an impressive 128-57-1 record, earning Conference Coach of the Year honors, and leading her team to an NCAA Tournament appearance. A former Academic All-American catcher at the University of Dayton, Laura is known for her eye for talent, ability to recruit and develop players, and her commitment to helping student-athletes succeed both on the field and in the classroom.

Maya Johnson is the standout senior pitcher at Belmont University who earned NFCA Division I First Team All-American honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She was widely considered one of the top pitchers in the country during her senior season. Johnson dominated at the Division I level with elite power, movement and accuray, and the ability to carry Belmont deep into postseason play. Her performance not only put Belmont softball on the national map but also solidified her reputation as one of the premier arms in college softball that year.

Michelle Venturella - April 1st
Michelle Ruether Venturella (born May 11, 1973) is an American, former collegiate All-American, gold medal-winning Olympian, left-handed softball player and former Head Coach at UIC and Washington University in St. Louis. Venturella played for the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Conference, being named a three-time all-conference honoree and the 1994 Player of The Year. She later served as an alternate for the 1996 Olympics and then winning a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics for Team USA softball. She now works for Built to Lead which is a leadership company that helps heads of businesses and teams become truest to themselves and thus better for their teams and companies.
