Practice Pro Summer Pitching & Catching Camp

Now catchers are welcome too! Learn catching skills from Illinois Wesleyan Head Coach Tiffany Prager, Caelan Moran of Marian University, and Jenna Gohman - your 6+ year Practice Pro Instructor!

Over the years our must FUN event of the year, summer camp, has helped softball pitchers build stronger mechanics, throw harder, improve command, and gain confidence on the mound. This year, we’re going to keep doing what you love and add a catching component! Sign up as a pitcher or a catcher, or come together!

This year, we're excited to add a catching component that allows pitchers and catchers to learn together and gain a better understanding of how to work as a team. If you already have a catcher or pitcher you'd like to bring, even better! You'll have opportunities to train together, learn how to communicate more effectively, develop trust, and better understand each other's role during competition.

Catching Component

Catchers will receive instruction in:

  • Receiving and framing

  • Blocking fundamentals

  • Throwing mechanics

  • Working with different pitch types

  • Pitcher/catcher communication

  • Game management and strategy

Throughout camp, pitchers and catchers will also work together on:

  • Building trust and communication

  • Learning how to catch for a specific pitcher

  • Pitch calling and sequencing

  • Game-like situations and competitions

What Pitchers Will Learn

  • Proper pitching mechanics

  • Increasing velocity and power

  • Improving command and consistency

  • Creating spin for pitch movement

  • Changeup and off-speed development

  • Pitch sequencing and game strategy

  • Reading hitters

  • Mental toughness and resilience

  • Pre-game preparation and routines

  • Confidence and body language

  • Goal setting and progress tracking

  • Competitive drills and pressure situation

Don't have a teammate to attend with? No problem at all. Pitchers and catchers are welcome to register on their own. We'll pair athletes appropriately throughout camp based on age and ability level, so everyone can benefit from the pitcher-catcher experience and participate in all activities. Over the course of this two-day camp, athletes will receive focused instruction, quality repetitions, and opportunities to compete in a fun, encouraging environment while developing both their individual skills and their understanding of the game.
